# Saving and closing

How hypershot handles captures that are still being written when you close the
editor or quit the app.

## The save prompt

Closing the editor (or quitting from the tray) with unsaved changes shows a
prompt with live save status:

- While a capture is still being written, the prompt **waits with a progress
bar**, then offers **Save** (or **Save all**), **Discard**, and **Keep
  working**
- A failed save reports why and offers **Retry**
- Clicking **Save** closes or quits on its own when the save finishes quickly;
a longer save waits for your click — a window never closes unattended after
  a long wait

The editor shows a **Saving** indicator (and a **Preparing** state while a new
capture's frames are finalized) so you always know where things stand.

## Captures don't block each other

Starting a new capture never waits for the previous one to finish saving —
the previous capture keeps saving in the background. Editing also stays
available while a capture saves; only timeline frame changes wait until the
frames are finalized. The capture hotkey with an editor open closes the
editor (prompting if there are unsaved changes) and starts the new capture.

Quitting from the tray prompts for unsaved captures even when no editor
window is open.
