hypershot is a screenshot app for macOS and Windows. It captures a region, a window, the full screen or a whole scrolling page; freezes the screen so menus and tooltips stay put; keeps a short burst of frames so you can pick the right moment; and opens every capture in an editor with arrows, text, highlighting, redaction, backgrounds and on-device text recognition. Try it free for 7 days.
Capture
Every way to grab the screen: a region, a window, the full screen, a whole scrolling page, on a timer, or frozen in place.
Region capture
Press the region shortcut and drag to select any part of the screen. Release to capture. Depending on your After capture setting, the capture goes to the preview folder, opens in the editor, or is just copied.
- Mac
- ⌘⇧2
- Windows
- CtrlShift3
- Default hotkey differs by key, not just modifier: ⌘⇧2 on Mac, Ctrl+Shift+3 on Windows (⌘⇧3 is reserved by macOS)
- Selection dimensions are shown while selecting
- Esc cancels before release
- Move the pointer to another monitor to switch screens
- Also available from the menu bar or tray ('Capture Region') and the Quick Access Panel
- Region captures record a short burst of frames you can scrub afterwards (see Multi-frame capture)
Region capture in the docs →
Freeze the screen
Press Space during a region or OCR selection to freeze the screen, then refine your selection while hover states, tooltips and menus stay put. Press Space again to return to the live view. A separate shortcut opens region capture already frozen.
- Mac
- ⌘⇧X
- Windows
- CtrlShiftX
- Space toggles freeze/live during region and OCR selection. A hint pill in the overlay shows the current state
- 'Region capture (frozen)' shortcut opens the overlay with the screen already frozen: ⌘⇧X / Ctrl+Shift+X (X rather than F because macOS 26 uses ⌘⇧F for window tiling)
- Also in the tray as 'Capture Region (Frozen)'
Freeze the screen in the docs →
Live capture preview
While you select a region, a miniature of the screen at the top of the overlay shows your pointer position and the selection size, so you can line up the selection precisely.
- Shown at the top of the region-capture overlay
- Shows pointer position and selection size
- Added in 1.2.0, along with lower pointer latency on macOS and a crosshair with an opaque halo
Live capture preview in the docs →

- Mac
- ⌘⇧W
- Windows
- CtrlShiftW
- Captures the whole window including its title bar, at its current size
- Esc cancels before clicking
- macOS: 'Window shadows' setting (Settings → Captures, Mac only, on by default) controls whether macOS drop shadows are included in single-frame captures

- Mac
- ⌘⇧0
- Windows
- CtrlShift0
- Hidden unless experimental features are enabled (the hotkey is registered only then, and the tray item shows a 🧪 label)
- Captures the screen under the cursor: desktop background as one layer plus every window that intersects that screen as its own layer
- Window shadows are baked into each window layer
Composite screen capture (experimental) in the docs →
Scrolling capture
Start a scrolling capture, select the scrollable area, then scroll the content yourself. hypershot stitches the frames into one tall image with a live preview. Click Done when you're finished.
- Mac
- ⌘⇧J
- Windows
- CtrlShiftJ
- Its own capture mode: ⌘⇧J / Ctrl+Shift+J, 'Scrolling Capture' in the menu bar or tray, or the Quick Access Panel
- Samples about 8.3 times per second and stitches by pixel alignment
- An on-screen guide tells you how it's going: how much it has captured, when to slow down, and when it has reached the end
- Maximum height is limited by your GPU's maximum texture size
- Warns when the selection is too small to stitch reliably
- Works best scrolling vertically in one direction
Scrolling capture in the docs →

Questions
How do I screenshot part of my screen on Mac with hypershot?
Press ⌘⇧2, drag over the area, and release. You can change the shortcut in Settings → Shortcuts.
What is hypershot's region capture shortcut on Windows?
Ctrl+Shift+3 by default. Windows uses 3 rather than 2 because the earlier defaults clashed with hotkeys that other apps had already registered.
How do I screenshot a hover state or tooltip that disappears?
Press ⌘⇧X (Ctrl+Shift+X on Windows) to open region capture with the screen frozen, or press Space during a region capture to freeze it. Then select at your own pace.
Can I freeze the screen before taking a screenshot on Mac?
Yes. In hypershot, press Space while selecting a region to toggle a frozen snapshot, or use the frozen region shortcut ⌘⇧X.
Does hypershot have a magnifier for precise screenshots?
Yes. During region selection, a live miniature at the top of the overlay shows your pointer position and the selection size.
How do I screenshot a single window on Mac without the background?
Press ⌘⇧W, hover the window, and click. Only that window is captured.
How do I take a full-screen screenshot with hypershot?
Press ⌘⇧1 on Mac or Ctrl+Shift+1 on Windows. It captures the screen your pointer is on.
Can I move windows around after taking a screenshot?
Yes, with hypershot's experimental Composite screen capture (⌘⇧0 / Ctrl+Shift+0). Each window becomes its own movable layer over the desktop. Enable experimental features in Settings first.
How do I take a scrolling screenshot on Mac?
Press ⌘⇧J, select the scrollable area, and scroll steadily. hypershot stitches the frames as you go. Click Done to finish.
How do I capture a full web page that's longer than my screen on Windows?
Use hypershot's scrolling capture (Ctrl+Shift+J). Select the page area and scroll, and the frames are stitched into one tall image.
How do I screenshot a dropdown menu that closes when I press keys?
Use delayed capture (⌘⇧7 on Mac, Ctrl+Shift+7 on Windows). Select the area, open the menu during the countdown, and the capture fires on its own.
Can I set a screenshot timer on Mac?
Yes. hypershot's delayed capture counts down 1–30 seconds (5 by default) before capturing. Set the length in Settings → Captures.
Is there a way to pick a screenshot mode without remembering every shortcut?
Press ⌘⇧P (Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows) to open hypershot's Quick Access Panel, a grid of every capture mode. Clicking the app's Dock or taskbar icon opens it too.
How do I screenshot a tooltip or animation at exactly the right moment?
Do a region capture and hold the mouse button after drawing the selection. hypershot records a burst of frames, and you scrub the editor timeline to pick the one you want.
Why does my hypershot capture have multiple frames?
Region captures keep a short burst (1 second by default) so you can pick the best moment. Set Capture window to 0 in Settings → Captures for single-frame captures.
How do I choose a different frame after taking a screenshot in hypershot?
Select the Timeline tool (F) in the editor, then drag the playhead or use the arrow keys to step through the captured frames.
