Hotkeys
Customize the global keyboard shortcuts for all capture actions.
Accessing Shortcuts
Section titled “Accessing Shortcuts”- Click the hypershot icon in your menu bar / system tray
- Select Settings
- Go to the Shortcuts tab

Note — Experimental hotkeys The Composite screen hotkey only works while experimental features are enabled (Settings → System → Experimental features).
Changing a Hotkey
Section titled “Changing a Hotkey”- Click the hotkey field you want to change
- Press your new key combination — the recorder captures the exact keys you press, including system shortcuts
- The new hotkey is saved automatically
Info — No automatic substitution hypershot registers exactly what you press — it does not silently substitute a “safe” alternative if you choose a system shortcut. If your chosen combo can’t be registered (e.g. it’s claimed by macOS or another app), a warning appears in Settings explaining the conflict.
Tips for Choosing Hotkeys
Section titled “Tips for Choosing Hotkeys”- The ⌘⇧ / Ctrl+Shift family is a good base — it avoids most OS conflicts
- Avoid combinations used by other apps
- Avoid single keys (too easy to trigger accidentally)
Conflict Detection
Section titled “Conflict Detection”hypershot detects hotkey conflicts dynamically:
- macOS: Conflicts with enabled system shortcuts are detected live (not from a hardcoded list). If you’ve disabled a macOS screenshot shortcut in System Settings, hypershot recognizes it’s available and won’t show a false warning.
- Registration failures (another app owns the combo, or Accessibility permission is missing) are surfaced as warnings in the Shortcuts tab.
Tip — Disabling macOS system shortcuts If a default macOS shortcut conflicts with your preferred hypershot hotkey, open System Settings → Keyboard → Keyboard Shortcuts and disable the system shortcut there. hypershot will detect it’s now available.
Resetting to Defaults
Section titled “Resetting to Defaults”Click Reset to Defaults at the bottom of the settings panel to restore all original hotkeys.
Platform Notes
Section titled “Platform Notes”- Hotkeys require Accessibility permission
- Grant in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility
- If Accessibility is not granted, capture hotkeys may fail to register — the permissions window or Settings will indicate this
Windows
Section titled “Windows”- Works out of the box
- Some hotkeys may be reserved by Windows
