The Effects
hyperbin ships three effects, all driven by the same rule: the effect grows with what’s in the Trash and settles back when the bin is emptied. None of them is a fixed loop — each reacts to your bin and your pointer.
You can switch effects at any time from the menu-bar item, under Effect. Settings covers the amount and threshold controls that apply to all three.
A swarm of flies over the bin.
- They land on the bin and walk about, take off, and pass behind it — flies that overlap the Trash’s own artwork are masked away, so they read as passing behind the icon
- The motion comes from steering behaviours (wander, separation, containment) rather than a keyframed path, so it never loops visibly
- Bring the pointer near the bin and they scatter
- The swarm’s size follows the amount setting and the bin’s fullness; with an empty bin the last fly leaves under its own power
A translucent green gel that fills the bin and runs down the outside.
- The look is transmission: you see the bin through the gel, refracted, with real highlights
- As the bin fills, the gel climbs and the film running down the outside thickens; a puddle gathers at the foot
- The gel has eyes that open, blink, and glance around — seated on the surface so the body swells and closes around each one
- The eyes follow your pointer: bring the cursor over the bin and they converge on it until it leaves
Note — The level is not a gauge The ooze deliberately reads high early on: a half-full bin and a full one look nearly the same. That’s the intended character, not a misreading of your Trash.
Tentacles
Section titled “Tentacles”Arms that reach out of the bin.
- Each arm feels along the rim, slaps it, coils, wraps around it, and curls up
- Arms pass behind the lid and behind the rubbish (masked against the bin’s measured opening) rather than floating over the icon
- When you empty the bin they thrash their way back under the rubbish
- More arms join as the bin fills, according to the amount setting
How fullness drives an effect
Section titled “How fullness drives an effect”Which effect you get, and how much of it, is set by two things you control in the menu — see Settings for the full list:
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Amount | How much of the effect — Just a Little to Make It Stop |
| Trash Threshold | How full the bin must be before the effect takes hold (1 MB to 5 GB+), used in More Trash, More Effect mode |
When the Trash empties below the threshold, every effect winds down and stops on its own — nothing keeps running, so an idle hyperbin costs essentially nothing in energy.
