Onboarding
The first time you launch hypershot, a short onboarding flow walks you through permissions, shortcuts, and the basics. It runs once — here’s what to expect, and how to get back into each part later.
The Flow
Section titled “The Flow”- License agreement — the legal terms, accepted once per version. The app won’t continue until the current version’s terms are accepted
- Welcome — what hypershot is and how the menu-bar app works
- Permissions — Screen Recording and Accessibility on macOS (see Permissions below)
- Shortcuts — your capture hotkeys, with a chance to change them
- Guided tour — capture history, screenshots, and the editor, narrated step by step
- Capture preferences — save directory and post-capture behavior
- Purchase (optional) — pricing straight from the store, plus a license key field if you’ve already bought. Skippable; the 7-day trial runs either way
Permissions in Detail
Section titled “Permissions in Detail”Screen Recording (macOS, required)
Section titled “Screen Recording (macOS, required)”hypershot captures the screen through macOS’s native capture APIs, which requires the Screen Recording permission. Grant it when prompted; if you missed the prompt, enable it in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording.
After toggling Screen Recording, macOS requires you to quit and reopen hypershot for the grant to take effect.
Accessibility (macOS, required)
Section titled “Accessibility (macOS, required)”Needed for global hotkeys. Enable in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility. hypershot appears in the list after it first requests the permission — flip the switch and you’re done.
Windows
Section titled “Windows”No permissions are needed — global hotkeys and capture work out of the box.
Optional: Quick Look extension
Section titled “Optional: Quick Look extension”See Quick Look Extension — it’s toggled in System Settings, not requested in-app.
Shortcuts
Section titled “Shortcuts”The onboarding shortcut step sets your global capture hotkeys (defaults: ⌘⇧2 region, ⌘⇧9 full screen on macOS; Ctrl+Shift equivalents on Windows). If a default conflicts with another app, onboarding suggests an alternative. You can change them any time in Settings → Shortcuts.
Re-running Parts of It
Section titled “Re-running Parts of It”Nothing in onboarding is one-shot:
- Permissions: Settings → Permissions re-checks and re-requests
- Shortcuts: Settings → Shortcuts
