Permissions Revoked Mid-Use
hypershot depends on two macOS permissions — Screen Recording and Accessibility. If either is revoked while hypershot is running, capture and hotkeys stop working, and hypershot detects the loss and takes you back through the relevant part of onboarding to fix it.
What You’ll See
Section titled “What You’ll See”- Screen Recording revoked — captures fail or come back empty; hypershot surfaces a warning and relaunches the permissions flow
- Accessibility revoked — global hotkeys stop responding; the permissions flow re-opens so you can re-grant
The relaunch lands on the permissions step — you won’t lose settings, history, or licenses. It’s the same flow as first run, narrowed to what was lost.
How to Recover
Section titled “How to Recover”- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security and re-enable the revoked permission’s toggle for hypershot
- For Screen Recording, quit and reopen hypershot — macOS requires a relaunch before the grant reaches the app
- If hypershot hasn’t reopened the onboarding flow itself, relaunch the app and it will detect the gap
Revoked While the App Was Closed
Section titled “Revoked While the App Was Closed”If a permission is missing at launch, hypershot notices on startup and presents the permissions step before anything else — you can’t end up in a silent broken state.
Preventing Accidental Revokes
Section titled “Preventing Accidental Revokes”Two common ways permissions get flipped off accidentally:
- Clicking Deny on a macOS prompt raised by another app that looks similar
- System updates occasionally reset per-app permission toggles after an app update — if hypershot updates and hotkeys die, check the toggles first
